The Positive Behaviour for Learning School-Wide framework, also known as PB4L School-Wide, is helping New Zealand schools build a culture where positive behaviour and learning is a way of life.
It’s not about changing the students; it’s about changing the environment, systems, and practices you have in place to support them to make positive behaviour choices.
Omarama school is beginning a journey with PB4L in 2024 and really excited to be united on this journey.
Omarama School has participated in the Cool Schools. Peer Mediation Programme, which is a proactive programme that teaches essential life skills for peaceful conflict resolution
Peer Mediation is an approach to conflict resolution based on solving problems in a win / win way. The children learn how to become active listeners, identify their feelings, make 'I Statements' and use all of these skills, to resolve any conflicts they may experience at school.
Our leadership are excited to implement these mediation skills out in the playground, when necessary.
Omarama school has 4 whanau groups called Kiwi, Karearea, Weka and Kea. These groups work collaboratively to build relationships across all year levels.
Groups gather for sports, arts and culture and social occasions.
Whanau groups also liaise with the Omarama community to learn about local business, help those in need and invite expertise into the school, to inspire our learners.
These whanau groups belong to a house colour that earn points for an end of year achievement celebration.
