Inter-school Technology Challenge - Aubrey boys both placing 1st

Congratulations to Louis Aubrey (Y3) and Tom Aubrey (Y5) for both coming 1st in the finals Down Hill Racer challenge at the local Inter-school technology challenge.
Both boys created something a little different to other students, which resulted in a win!

The Challenge: To design and build an egg carton prototype of your racer designed to roll down a sloped board (1½ metres) and continue along asphalt pavement.
Materials: an egg carton + any other materials

Conditions:

  • Be under 40cm in any dimension, rely on gravity for its propulsion and be custom built

Judging Criteria:
The winner will be the racer that travels the longest distance.

 

 
Omarama Students Shine at EPro8 Technology Challenge 2025

Finals - Year 5 / 6 placed 2nd

The EPro8 Challenge is a STEM (Science, technology, Engineering and Mathematics) challenge. It is an inter-school competition in New Zealand that focuses on developing these skills through practical, hands-on activities. The challenges involve building, problem-solving and experimenting with creative solutions to engineering problems.

Omarama Students place 2nd and 3rd at the Upper Waitaki RSA Primary School Anzac writing competition
 

Our students had been learning to tackle creative challenges and develop thoughtful ideas.
Thus competition was open to all students who reside or have family connections to the Upper Waitaki region.

  • James Mason placed 3rd (Omarama School) Year 8
  • Briar McKerchar placed 2nd (Omarama School) Year 6

 


 
Omarama student wins Speech Competition

 

This is an annual competition between students from the Waitaki area and North Otago schools.
The Year 5 - Year 6 competition was to write a 2 ½ minute speech titled“In my Experience".
Mazie wrote and presented a delightful speech about her Springer Spaniel.

Omarama School participates in an annual speech competition with other schools in the Waitaki Valley. Here are a couple of recordings from two talented students who gained second place in their age category.
